In my opinion, the reason why the need for religion is diminishing in recent times is quite obvious. The culture is changing, and its the young people, who create the culture. The new generation is inclined to learn, work, and travel around the world, they simply dont want to go to the church and listen to the same speeches and priests all the time. Moreover, more and more people are beginning to disagree with the knowledge delivered by the church. Weve become more open-minded and less conservative. Personally I know many people, that believe in god, but dont like church at all. The other important reason is that the people are becoming richer and happier, thats why they loose the need for protection, that should come from a great source, more powerful than anything on earth. The science also shows us, that many things that have been uttered by the priests for many years can't be true. The fact, that, unlike a few centuries ago, we are allowed to have our own opinions about all kinds of aspects of living on earth also changes our attitude to religion drastically. The people start to develop their own vision of God, and religion, that's why the religion often doesn't express thoughts equivocally enough, there exist some serious logical gaps within he religion, which make the people loose the trust in it.
I think, that less and less people are going to attend the church regularly in the nearest future, but I dont think, that religion itself is bound to disappear completely. Without it we wouldnt have a mental guidance through our lives and some people need it every day.
